42.John and Mary own shares of stock in a certain company.  Does John own more shares of the company's stock than Mary?

 

(1) Mary owns more than 500 shares of the company's stock.

 

(2) The number of shares of the company's stock that John owns is 400 less than twice the number of shares of the company's stock that Mary owns.

我的解答是第一个J拥有多于500股票，不知道另外一个M的个数所以不充分，第二个列成式子就是J=2M-400，这个能否推出J>M,看来是不行的，所以也是不充分。

将两个放在一起，J>500,也就是可以推出M>450，这时是否能推出J>M,看来不一定的，比如，J=501>500,M=502>450,但是J<M,反过来，如果J=600,M=500,那么J>M,所以两个条件放在一起也不充分，答案为E,但是答案给出的是C，请求解答？？？？

AngelSGX　你可能太紧张了，根据条件一，我们可以推出 M>500

根据条件二我们可以推出J=2M-400,

所以是Ｃ．

Mary has more than 500. Set Mary has 501 then John has 2*501-400=602. When M is larger, J grew faster. Set M =600, J=800.

So the answer is C.

多谢，我想的是对的，打的时候打错了，由（1）推出M>500, 由（2）推出J>600, 然后就发现这不能推出J>M,我就忘记了中间的J=2M-400,太荒唐了。多谢

个人觉得这类问“比较大小"的ds题目，最好用相减或者相除来验证一下比较保险。

最初我也经常落入trap，后来发现，如果用相减或相除来验证是最可靠的。

例如：

J-M=2M-400-M=M-400

因为M>500,所以M-400>0 ，也即J-M>0
