楼上的解释从哪里来的啊，选E有点荒谬的说:

the likelihood of a particular asteroid or comet that may ...: 如果丢掉that may后面的定语, 那就成了the likelihood of a comet, 没有这种表达方式, 就像不能说, the likelyhood of some people一样.

个人觉得应该选择C. 其实the likelihood that a particular asteroid or comet will
和how likely a particular asteroid or comet will be to都没有错, 比如OG里面还出现过一题选rate how frequently ...的. 问题就处在to do和for doing上面. for doing一般用在sth之后, 表示sth的用途, 而to do用在动词之后(不排除动词之后紧接其宾语), 表示这个动作的目的. 明显上面题目整体的逻辑是表示目的更加完整.
