我们怎么觉得两处的their应该用his 去指代前面的a member

虽然times有类似的句子，但其主语是clergymen，所以用their。

clergy貌似是集合名词。。

如果用his,那his lives肯定不对吧，选项跟his的不知道是lives还是life呢？

恩，我在想要是有his life，我会选这个吧

但句子的指代是member 吧，和clergy没有关系吧

我觉得只要their能向前指代到复数名词并且不产生歧义就可以了。。
