You don't have to go to a certain city to find an internship. You are work anywhere. Most people got their internship outside the city or state the school is in.
Usually companies suppose to go to schools before the summer, but you can always try to find a job yourself from websites.

The companies do not need to be around the campus. If they want to hire people, they will come to the school to interview you or arrange phone interview with you first, then if they like you they will fly you to their sites.

most likely you return on the same day after the interview, so they are not responsible for your stay. However if they require you to stay for another day, they will pay for your hotel expense. Food expense some companies do have allowance for it but some don't.
