let me tell u what i think:

1) u r a boy, not a girl. so less opportunity, for sure. I know it is argumentative

2) how is your work exp? reference letters? Acquaintance relations btw professors?

3) do u have phone interview? your english ability?

4) some colleges u apply for may enroll just 1 for marketing phd, so u lose chance.

5) this year, very competitive, will be more competitive next year with fu*king slowdown economy and h1 quota for intl stu

My personal exp for accounting phd application this year:

Gmat: 740, dual master degrees from US ,  fortune 100 in US work exp, CPA, good reference,

I choose 15 schools, 4 interviews, Good univ turn me down, two so-so offers finally.  

Curious, why bos has less opportunities

楼主！如果你是因为做自己喜欢的事做marketing我非常佩服你！就算自己数理背景很强，做得不开心有什么意思呢？我觉得人还是要追求自己想要的！

以楼主的背景申请的硬件基本都没有问题。正如前面很多贴子提到的，楼主现在最需要搞清楚自己想要的是什么。如果只是是为了申请而申请，即使被录取了，4-5年的时间耗再完全没兴趣的领域，相信对你自己和你的教授来说都是灾难。毕竟，人有多少个5年？还是生命中黄金的5年！当然，如果楼主真的是喜欢研究marketing,建议你再坚持，毕竟能在今后的时间里能一直专研感兴趣的领域，再苦也是幸福的！

I think you have a perfect background in finance area, why do you want to apply for the mkt phd?
