Please calculate how much you would have after deducting your tax and living expense (in BJ or SH) with 300K yuan in China.... (Don't think it'll be positive if considering BJ or SH's price index when you consume the same things as you do in Chicago) It's much worse than the case in Chicago. BTW, the valuable experience in the US top MBA programs and networking definitely will contribute to your future career success no matter where you are. So if you have a goal, and you think it is worth your effort and cost from a long term, then stick to it and ignore those noises.

I didn't say it's hard for you to make 300K yuan in China. If you are satisfied with your current situation, of course, you don't need to apply for a good MBA program in the US. What I said is to encourage those who have their own goals and would like to make efforts to realize those goals.

BTW, even if you got 200K now, you will be in debt if your expense is over 20,000 per month.(Of course, you can save as much as you can from your salary with limited spending.)

For student loan, you also need to consider the loan intest. And if you lose your job in a few years, it will prolong even more your pay off plan.

After tax, it does not make that much difference between earning 80K and 100K.

Don't forget your 2 years opportunity cost. If you earn 40K each year, that will be another 80K on top of your 100K tuition.

MBA is not about how much you can earn right after graduation, it is about to increase your earning ceiling.

It is more about get you into the door, and allow you to earn more 5-10 yrs down the road.
