5)在下列情况下，只能用that而不能用as:

as只能是关系代词，但是that可以作为关系副词和关系代词的。

如：I live in the same city that he lives.此处只能用that，而不能用as;

但是，如果稍加改动，I live in the same city as he lives in。则就可以用as了，因为,as此时是关系代词（当然，此处也可以用that）。

我觉得这句话不对, 应改为 I live in the same city which he lives in. or in which he lives or as he lives in.

   the same year or the adj way 等可后加that,在其它的形式下用WHERE,WHEN, IN WHICH.

1, "the same ... as" is preferable.
2, I don't think "the same ... that" is an idiom, on the contrary, here "that" just leads an attributive clause, modifying the previous word. eg.

A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published, --------'that' modifies 'year'

Is Tom on the paper the same one that you went to school with? ----- 'that' modifies 'one'

在lzm的语法总结中，认为在某些情况下the same as 与the same that等同。而本人在搜集了若干og中关于the same as 的用法与解释之后，总结如下，希望各位高手予以批评，指正。

1. the same as 与the same that 的差异
首先请看og174及其解释：
174. A letter by Mark Twain, written in nayear as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn were published, reveals that Twain provided financial assistance to one of the first Black students at Yale Law School.
A. A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn were published,
B. A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year of publication as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,
C. A letter by Mark Twain, written in the same year that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published,
D. Mark Twain wrote a letter in the same year as he published The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that
E. Mark Twain wrote a letter in the same year of publication as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that

In this sentence, the relative pronoun that should introduce the clause The Adventures ... published to make a relative clause modifying year. Also, the singular title of the novel demands a singular verb: for example, one would say, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is (not "are") a great book." Only C, the best choice, satisfies both requirements. Choices A and D incorrectly substitute as for that to introduce the relative clause. Choice A also mistakes the novel title for a plural (were published). B confuses meaning (written in the same year of publication as). E creates a similar confusion of meaning, and both D and E are awkward and imprecise because that is too far away from its referent (letter) to be clear.

因为此处动作都是是 pass，故可以用as来引导从句。只是前后的时态不一样，所以为了强调这一点， as后的will 没有省略。

JJ的帖子给了我很大的启发，前两天做174错了后看了汇总帖里所有的帖子，越看越晕，一直不明白为什么174用the same year that且看OG的解释是此局不能用比较句，而80用the same time as。

今天又好好想了想，觉得正如JJ所说如果用the same year as应该是强调动作,动作应该时可比的，因为这里不可能比时间（已经指出了是同一年，绝不可能再拿这个year来比较）但written 和was published是两种动作，然后假设我们把原句as后的部分遮住，读了written in the same year as我会很自然的预期The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was written
            (当然按照比较中的省略原则会省掉这个written），但这里后半句是定死的，所以OG用了the same year that来表达在相同的一年发生了这两个动作！所以OG说这里不该用比较句，而要用从句！
    

再看看80题，civilizations后面省略了did，也就是flourished，两个动作是一样的，能比了，所以就用了as，说得更精确些是比较两个不同地点的文明flourished的时间（其实我也同意the same as 一般更好，因为感觉更清楚）
