Is face to face communication better than other types of communication?
Recently, there is a debate over if face to face communication is better than other types of communication. Different people hold different opinions because of their distinct backgrounds. Some people advocate that face to face communication is better because it makes conversation “normal”, others, nevertheless, do not believe it. As far as I am concerned, I side with the former. Of countless reasons and facts that can strengthen my viewpoints, I will present the most consequential and conspicuous ones here.
The first plain truth, I am presenting here, is that face to face communication can be considered the most efficient way of communication at office, because it makes you have discussion immediately, work out solution and response quickly to the problems. “Time is money” are the keywords in our time. Nothing can be compared, I maintain, with efficiency. A company without efficient response to the situation, many of us believe, is an unfortunate victim of competitive business circumstances, deprived one of the significant opportunities in the 21st century. Accordingly, so great is our passion for efficiency that we are more and more increasingly dependent on face to face communication. For instance, convinced of the importance of efficient response, a firm where one of my acquaintances is working encouraged employees to have the face to face conversation and then got the efficiency back in the form of more profits. Many other companies, however, did not do so and, consequently have never experienced success of this sort as their counterpart has. Thus, the most striking conclusion is obvious that face to face communication can offer our companies the most efficient way of communication and then benefit them vastly.
In addition, behind my view lies another persuasive fact that face to face communication can give us a healthy method of communication. On no account can we deny the significance of health. In fact, some statistical reports from New York city have demonstrated that people who often have face to face conversation are more likely becoming open-minded and affable than the people who do not have. In order to do so, it seems that we should take advantage of face to face communication since it is the most effective to achieve.
Admittedly, other types of communication have some undeniable merits. For example, one of my friends asserts that cell phone is the best way to communicate because of its convenience. However, he failed to mention that cell phone will cost a lot and probably can’t work when its expire charges. He may be saved misery and expense when he chose the face to face communication. Thus, because the advantages of face to face communication carry more weight than those of others’, it is more reasonable to say that face to face communication is better.
To conclude, despite the minor drawbacks such as less convenient, face to face communication, compared with other types of communication, is instrumental rather than detrimental to us. Virtually, it will benefit us not only in high efficiency at work, but also in our mental health. Hence, it will not fail to be a safe and wise choice to prefer face to face communication in daily life.
