关于culture shock

请教大家，没有出国过，只是在国内，和国际友人因为文化问题发生冲突，算是culture shock的一种么？我看culture shock的定义，都强调大环境必须是个陌生的环境，大量不同的文化带来的焦虑不安等等感觉，才是culture shock。那么，没有出国过，可怎么写呢......愁死人了啊

Sure.  Also think about corporate culture, if you do have experience working in multinational companies.  You can also talk about the cultural difference between northern and southern China and other examples.  The purpose of the essay is to demonstrate your ability to adopt, integrate yourself, solicit feedback, and act on those feedbacks.  Any environment where you did that should do.  Good luck!

谢谢yaoyao,非常热心~ 再问一下，我本来写的是与一个外国友人发生严重冲突，之后吸取教训，在后来的国际环境工作中与同事们和睦共处的事例。结果外国朋友看了，说，“the essay itself did not really describe your own experience of culture shock; rather it focused on that of others. The best option would be to describe an experience of culture shock that you experienced (i.e. if you have traveled to a foreign country).”建议我在开头加上：Rather than experiencing it myself, I have witnessed its effects on both my friends and coworkers. 可是我觉得这句话超级的此地无银三百两啊，而且就显得很没有自信了。我觉得我完全也是在一段破裂的关系中被shock到了啊~

嗯，是啊，问题是别的选择似乎更没有啥可写的......偶觉得偶的国际工作环境还是挺有趣的，觉得不写有些可惜了，但是又有那么一点点不切题。关键是culture shock的定义比较死。

You should describe the anxiety when you move to a completely new environment.  Remember, it is "completely new" environment.

Yeah, I know the definition. Really hard for me. I will try~ Thanks a lot for the advice.

But the interesting thing is, I have asked many of my friends who currently live and work abroad and none of them said they have experienced any "culture shock".

One good thing I got from writing those essays is that I start thinking a lot of things I would have never had the time to think of. Your friends probably haven't experienced any "essary writing" shock.
