Is it important to know every event happening around the world even if it is unlike to have any effect on your daily life? My grandfather likes to watch TV and read newspaper to know new events happen around the world. He said it is important to know them because you can still learn many things from what had happened. It is good for him, though, in the way that he can talk about everything he read or watched to his friends when talking and having fun. In contrary for me, I strongly believe that knowing some world events which are not going to affect my daily life is unnecessary and a waste of time. Reading or watching the world news is a common way of entertainment but knowing them all won’t help you get a higher salary or get a better performance at your job. Since the only way to earn more money is working hard, knowing world events won’t helper you at all. In contrast, I’ve heard that one was fired from his company because he read newspaper when he should be working at his project. “Your boss won’t promote you because you know more stuff of fields other than your job”, my father told me that when I first got a job. Knowing the news won’t give you a happier life either. Most of the time, the new events will be the new appearance of volcano or hurricane or other bad news. Knowing there is a war fighting in Iraq certainly won’t cheer you up; knowing Bush is selected as president will neither. All these news could not give you what you need to have a happy life. Think about watering plants with your parents; think about playing soccer with your children. Take time to enjoy your life instead of know those world events which are so far away from you. Furthermore, sometimes being too eagerly to know world events may cost you a bit. Taking too much time on knowing those world events may not be a good idea and sometime is a true waste of time. One of my father’s classmates was a fun on new world events that he cost about two hour per day on it on average. Once his boss assigned him a presentation to prepare, he didn’t finished it in time because in addition to entertaining and other normal costs of time, watching TV to know about the new war in Iraq consumed him a lot of time. His boss lowered his salary for a month in result. It appears that knowing the events is unhelpful and a little destructive for the guy’s daily life. In conclusion, knowing every events of the world is not important if it does not have effect on one’s daily life. It could be a big time consuming for people although it’s a good way of relax sometimes.
