Do you agree or disagree:If you want to know some world events, you'd better read newspapers, because the television news doesn’t have enough information Ever since TV was invented in the early 20th century, it has proven to be an inborn rival to the newspapers. Compared with the old-fashioned and strictly limited sizes characteristic of newspapers, TV news has more diversities with lively scenario and explanations. But is it true that we will not need newspapers at all whenever we want to know, say, world news? As far as I am concerned, newspaper is indispensable in that it provide us with more information and details than TV news could. To begin with, newspaper generally includes a broader and deeper description of backgrounds about what is going on at certain parts of the world. On the other hand, TV news tends to briefly deliver the event itself. To give a demonstration, when I saw the Kosovo war on TV, what I can perceive is that kids are crying, bombs are exploding, women are shattering with children in their arms. In a word, I see that the a war is taking place in that area, but I had no idea of what is behind the war, say, why the war broke up, was it for the food, or religious reasons, or anything else? When faced with such questions, I turned to newspaper for a more profound analysis on this war. And as I expected, I found out that the war broke up because the Serbian government fiercely treat the local residents, and finally the international societies intervened to prevent further torturing and killing. Another reason that I prefer newspaper for world events is that the pictures and scenario delivered by TV just indicate the perspective of the reporters, and consequently might be one-sided and mislead us audience. In contrast, a newspaper usually offers different standpoints on the same issue. It is very common to see that articles holding quite the opposite opinions over one issue are published in one newspaper, sometimes, even side by side. Moreover, I have more time to give a full thought of what I read in a newspaper. As a result, I will be less likely to be misled by the author, if s/he is trying to. Based on above reasons, it is easy to come to the conclusion that newspaper does contain more information than TV. But it should also be added that TV news is equally important for its quick delivery and vivid demonstration of what is happening all over the world.
