今天第一次写托福作文，好难啊。11月3号就要考了，真心拜求各位NN指点一下。感激不尽！

It has been said, “Not everything that is learned is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why?

Nowadays, there are more and more books published, which arouses a question, “Is anything that is learned is contained in books?” many people declare that gaining knowledge from books is more important than from experience, because we can find almost everything in books. However, others hold the opinion towards this controversy; they consider experience as a main means in our daily lives. I argue for the latter viewpoint, because experience brings more to us. I would like to explain it in my following article.

The merits of what I am talking are numberless as the sand. To begin with , knowledge gained from experience is an essential source to form characters, such as grittiness and humility. As we all know, the fact that nobody can be successful without grittiness or humility which are characteristics of famous men can be proved by Lincoln and Einstein. I really can not imagine that Lincoln became gritty and modest just after finishing certain book which taught people to be so. We can only cultivate virtues in our daily life, not from books.

Furthermore, as George Bernard Shaw said, activity is the only road to knowledge. We could communicate with our classmates, colleagues and friends not from books but from experience. Is there anybody who does not pursue happiness?  No doubt that all of us want to live happy lives, so we practice communication skills, understand each other, improve our relationship, and then get more happiness.

I do not deny that we are able to accumulate lots of knowledge from books, but there is a question, “what the purpose of reading books?” we acquire knowledge in order to use it, whereas sometimes we may make mistakes in daily lives if copy books. At one time, I chatted with a girl as a book told me to, at last the girl considered me as a strange man, what a shame.

In a word, I persist we should pay more attention to experience, after all it is the main method to acquire knowledge. Also, we can not give up books, because they are convenient to get. I feel that if people regard both of them, they will do better than those who quit either channel.
