weizhao78...

if you have time, please have a look at the following writing practice by me.... i'll appreciate that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Which is more important: spending more time with your job or with your family. 19.55

When it comes to making a judgment, people differ in their attitudes toward whether we should work more and spend less time with our family. Some hold that as long as a job position offers a handsome compensation package, a longer working schedule is acceptable. Others, on the contrary, maintain that money is not everything; spending more time with family is really what life is all about. Personally, I agree with the latter for the following reasons.

First, working longer hours means that you won’t have more spare time with your family. With fewer hours with you family, you won’t be able to help with your children’s studies when they really need your help. On the contrary, if you can take a position with fewer working hours, you will enjoy your family life more. Not only will you have more time with your children’s studies, but have time to bring your family to more community activities. You will miss those wonderful moments in life if you cannot spare even a fraction of second from your work.

Secondly, life is short. Spending more time with family is what life is really about. With more after-work hours, you will be able to make schedules for family trips. You and your family can go hiking during the summer time, you can go skiing on a nice winter day, and also you can take a one-week vacation with your dear family far away from the busy city. However, all those wonderful moments in life will become an unrealistic mission if you have a busy working schedule that requires you to work eighteen hours a day, seven days a week.

Moreover, researches have revealed that people who work more than average hours will usually suffer from mental-related stresses. Those people work all day along, always grab a candy bar as their lunch, and never have a chance to take a break. They are most likely to become a victim of crushing pressures from their work. Instead of taking care of their family, some of those people end up lying in the ward of hospital. Their family would never have a happy time together.

Based on what I mentioned above, I cannot accept a long working schedule at expense of spending more time with my dear family. If I were given a choice, I would choose to work fewer hours in order to have more time to help my kids, to take part in more community activities with my family, to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature with my dear family. All of those moments are valuable for me, but not for a work alcoholic.
