急,菜鸟!!8月考试,口语时态问题,帮帮忙!!!!

因为在下中学英语学的巨次,所以写TOFEL作文(因为一般为说理文不是记叙文)的时候也没有涉及到太多的时态问题,但如今作口语时,经常遇到不解之处,将问题列出 请大家指教.先谢过了

让你描述一个motto .我的回答是
well the motto i like the most ,comes from michael  jordan ,is "if you think you can then you can,it is this motto that encourages(还是d) me to overcome various  difficulties in the duration of  preperaring for (有无the?) tofel exam . you know ,since learning a second language is too difficult ,inevitably,i was(还是is) always exposed to(the?) frustration in that tough time
when i was going to give up ,for the intense stress." if you think you can youcan"   came to my mind and reminded me of my dream-going to US ,and encourage me to continue to study .
请大家看看时态用的有错吗?尤其是encourages 我觉得后半句提到in the duration of  preperaring for tofel exam 是过去的事,是不是应用过去时,如果是一般时,请能告知理由吗?
