我把我对5个选项的理解都写下来了,请NN们指正:

A:it是指asteroid,但是but后面的句子没有谓语动词

B:最后一个it指代不清,不知道是指代earth还是指代asteroid

C:were to do虽然不是GMAT的标准表达方式(相对于will do而言),但是在没有更好的选项的情况下,只好选这个.而且C中指代没有歧义,明显it就是指代asteroid的

D:原句是主动的,改成被动不好

E:第二个it指代不清,不知道是指代earth还是指代asteroid,而且but后面没有谓语动词.

我觉得D选项还有一个不好的，前后的时态很不一致。 if Earth is struck by it, can do part of the planet tremendous damage, but it would，一个是can do ,一个是but would,按理说至少这两个的时态是一致的。请NN指正

这是两个并列结构,不存在it指代问题

首先，that引导定从已不必多说

其次，大家一直争论的be to do的问题，这里是虚拟,were to是在if引导的虚拟中的一种表将来的特定

sb would do sth if sb were to do

当然，虚拟表将来的形式不只这一种，大家可以参见LZM

把E里面的if it strikes earth 看做插入语 那么第二个it指代了asteroid 发生了指代错误的问题
