wow, now I wonder: how did my friend made to wharton last year? his verbal is 75%.

Although I don't think that you have a very strong background (after all it is a top 5 school), I do think you are just as qualified as my friend who made it.

Let me put my speculation up: in your recommendation letter, did your recommender show any emotion at all, or it is just another letter saying you are the top, it is sad to see you go, bah bah bah. these days, that type of old normal recommendation letter won't work.

maybe the problem is my reference letters. they just show my leadership,teamwork, experience backed by some examples and how  an MBA will help me in  the future. funnytiger, I do not understand  what "show emotion" means? I refered to some recommendations made by editing company, but i do no know if showing emotion is important in recommendation writing.

不要泄气，有时候并不是你的实力不够，而只是运气不好，你的pool里面其他人正好比你强一些。如果你去BW forum看看的话，可能就会心宽一些。那里几个750+, 2y BB, 2y VC的人也在抱怨没有拿到面试邀请呢。

My guess:

first, I think your professional goal desn't match the Whaton's philosophy. at least, your present doesn't match. There is no such thing that Whaton likes Finance not IT guys, because diversity is a key to every B-school, no exception to Whaton. To me, IT background is your strenth rather than weakness.
second, your WP's quality rather than the length.
third, I don't think you done your home work well to prepare such a rigorous program based your post and response here.

Let's try some simple questions?

1. Can you use 2 or 3 words describle your pro goal?
2. Can you use  2 or 3 words describle Whaton's philosophy?
3. Do you know how slective Whaton is?
4. Can you use 4 words to describle Whaton's career strategy
5. Can you use 3 words to describle Whaton's full time student lifestyle choices?
5. Do you know how big is the alumni network is and what the alumni do?
6. Do you know anything about Rosemaria Martinelli and Judith Silverman? what they do and for how long?
