平心而论,这是个让人失望的帖子。

Hi sevfye,

MA in Econ is a good background for many different areas of law, both translational and litigation. Really, except patent prosecution, there is no limitation of what your specialization can be. You also have an advantage if you want to become a professor, since law and economics is a popular subject area.

Good luck!

平心而论, 只是让您失望罢了, 没必要用这样泛泛的语言.

不过, 作为一共发过三贴的新手, 而且毫不谦虚和礼貌, 您的期望值究竟有多高呢?

are u talking about T14 schools, when u said "first year is overrated?".  I have seen ppl describing how hard they worked their first year, study till early morning every day, blahblah.......          but then some ppl tend to 自吹自擂, lol.

These stories are usually true. I think 自吹自擂 on this matter is rare.

A lot of JD students, both inside and outside of Top 14, study until early morning hours everyday.

However, there are also people who do not do that.

Hi Expert123: I have three years of experience in PWC's M & A tax group. CPA, CFA Level II. Top U.S. public undergrad. Would my experience be of any help upon graduation? (Say a top 20 school.) What's the prospects of working in IBanks's legal dept.? What about say a top consulting firm? Not particularly interested in the law firm and 15+ years to partnership.

I agree that it's quite a risky, as compared with an MBA. So still deciding and it's painful. Please help!! Thanks!

Hi blur1997,

Your background is excellent and should be helpful in landing a top consulting job, e.g. Boston Consulting or McKinsey. Both recruit from top 20 law schools, but you will be far better off going to a school such as H, Y, S, Columbia, Penn, etc. If you want to go to a school which is ranked Top 15-20 (for scholarships, etc.), make sure you choose UCLA or USC over Iowa, Minn., etc, because the reputation of the university itself matters.

I am not sure about working in IBank's legal dept. I have only heard about experienced lawyers getting jobs in IBanks, not fresh JD grads.

2. MYTH: High ranked schools are necessary and sufficient for great jobs

REALITY: NO!!! The truth is, excellent English and good background and social skills in a low-ranked school >>> average English and poor background/social skills in a top school

楼主的这篇东西太没有说服力了,比如,我完全不同意你的POINT 2

把excellent English and good background and social skills 和a low-ranked school 捆绑在一起,来证明拥有这些特质的人会优于 top school(average English and poor background/social skills),这只是特例而已。

难道top school招生的人都是傻子,把excellent English and good background and social skills的都拒之门外????难道不应该是TOP SCHOOL的人ENGLISH/BACKGROUND/SOCIAL SKILL更好吗??

比如,国内经常有人争论,清华北大就业不一定都好,也有卖猪肉的,××师范专科学院也有年薪百万的。但是,这都是特例。总体来说清华北大就业一定是比**师范要好。
