Some official source confirms that both American and international students are involved in the scandal, students coming from 4 continents. Given the relative weight of Asian in the international student body, it is very likely that Asian may be involved.

Putting aside the wild speculation about the home countries of the cheating students, we should take a serious look at the ethical issue. In our value system, we can justify almost everything by the end. We do not care too much how we get the end. We are smart if we can get ahead by "cheating", and we are acclaimed for our success and critized if we are "stuppid enough not to learn how to cheat". Taking a retrospection, have we been much serious about integrity?

In this sense, the cheating scandal will take place, sooner or later. But our education system has well accommodated the mispractice, because cheating in our education has become a norm. No matter what home countries of the cheating students at Duke turn out to be, it is time for us Chinese to understand certain virtues, which we may have been disparaged for decades, are really appreciated and seriously defended by American. We may pay arms and legs if we are not ready to effect a change in our mentality.

以下是引用dtiger在2007-5-4 13:25:00的发言:
It should not be a problem if going back China. There are always some people give up MBA(or other graduate programs) study and go back China. It is easy to find some explanation, so no need to worry...

I would suggest to use the rest of the time to visit around... Just like one of my good friends who gave up his EE Ph.D. study in a top school and went back China in 2002, he visited all the exciting places in US before he got on the airplane. Now he did extremely well in Shanghai, compared to many of his classmates still struggling in US. By the way, my friend's leave was totally due to his interest change -- no longer want to do research after his internship in summer... :-)

"It is easy to find some explanation, so no need to worry..." We are so proud of our smartness in handling such issues. This is not an instance of being cheating? We are so familiar with it that cheating has been like air in which we are living.

Ethical issues are reflective of the soundness of a society. And I believe the rampart of corruption has direct relationship with the fall of ethical standards.

as you said,  both American and international students are involved in the scandal, students coming from 4 continents. so it's common situation, not specially for only chinese students.  in the other word, in MBA == other schools(from elementary high school and college ),  cheating always appears along with the development of human being.  whatever chinese student, american student or european student.

don't say any bullshit.."it is time for us Chinese to understand certain virtues, which we may have been disparaged for decades, are really appreciated and seriously defended by American. We may pay arms and legs if we are not ready to effect a change in our mentality."   why it's the time? do you mean you didn't know cheating is not good before? ..why some people always say " 中国学生总是首先检讨自己".. 一副奴才的嘴脸。。

don't lose your confidence, all the world knows Chinese students are the best students who study hardest. don't overreact with this case, it's not a big deal.. nobody can say she/he never cheat on the study at all。

Totally Agree!
