The passages with the different color are some additional details of the listening part as I can remember.
I did the test in North America. The post above has a lot of information already, but I would like to contribute some details that I remember. These additional information will be in brackets "( )".
(This class is not required for his major, he has a few classes that are required, which he can not drop)因为他课外活动太多了,这是他唯一的非专业课,而这门课要写很多paper,太费时间。老师就反复地跟他说你其实很优秀阿,做得很好啊,而且你学这个文学对你的专业business很有帮助 (writing skill is important in business)对你申请研究生也有帮助 (doing well in upper level classes, although not major classes, will helping in getting into grad school than extracurriculum activities),反而那些乱七八糟课外活动可以少一些。
The student complains that the essay writing asks for too much time, he can not handle all these: major courses—marking/advertising…,Here have one question: “I really have no choice”---ask you why does the student say so? Later on, the professor persuades the student to take both poetry class and the curriculum activities. She thinks that the student needs time management strategy. Here is the second question regarding the time management. Third question as I can remember: Why does the student go to see his professor. Another one: what do you think the student is going to do: --- continue to take the course. Fifth: two benefits for the student to continue the poetry subject— manger the people in the future career and helping for the graduate school
( the professor mentions that the facture produces the products which are “ cheap and xxx” – question: why does the lecture mention cheap….?
Those artist argued that " products from the industrial manufacture do not have good design”. They prefered "the master workshop” ...“individuals can do their jobs carefully (not sure the words, but same meaning) “product with good design, such a chair, can enjoy both the worker and the buyer….” At the last part of the lecture, the professor says that until today some good design antique still worth lots—one question about this.
2)从空气里吸收,比如昆虫,这种不是喝,而是吸收 (absorb into body),但有一种African beetles例外,是喝的 (drink with mouth) (They absorb the water from the air. For example, beetles use their bodies or wings to absorb the water from the air and then drink it—see some information getting form internet: A desert beetle turns fog into drinking water with its wings, new research reveals。3)从食物中获取,一是喝食物里的水,二是通过消化食物吸收(metabolic water, one of the products from chemical reaction of breaking down fat),还提到了一个试验(some animal, fed with mice only, without any water, still survive) one qustion about the details in this part.
4。对话:某女去询问,在 campus open day (campus visiting day) 那天要做什么。男人说你要带小朋友 (high school students who are prospective students)去吃饭,参加活动,甚至可以带她上课 ( female student is not responsible for providing accommodation) (Here mentions that the girl is in physical major, but the freshman may be has other major. Question: why does the conversation mention this?),当然这个不一定。另外要女的去参加一个training (orientation for the campus visiting day),但是这个 training的两个时间都和这个女人的活动 (physics lab and orchestra rehearsal)有冲突。 (The actual words were "yeah, might be on a good day", I think she means when it's convenient)。 ( Question: why does the girl says: at least a good try?)
说什么大象之间传信息的声音我们人是听不见的 (elephant can communicate with infrasound, of which the frequency is too low for human being to hear, and higher pitch sound human being can hear),只能感受到震动,( Professor mentions that she used has a trip to …. One question: why does the professor talk about this trip? (Question: why does the lecture mentions such music instrument?) 又说大象在某些时候用高频率的声音传递(when anger or threaten, use higher pitch),有的时候用低频率的声音传递(when try to communicate about routine activities, use infrasound),这个后面有考分类题 ( baby, food, xx—Infrasound, fare- higher pitch)
。。(XXX is the first female painter who joins an Art Guild; she was not able to make money from her painting. Mary Bill is the first PROFESSIONAL painter—question: what can be inferred; she makes money from her art works)
Professor says that at 17th-18th century many women artists were noticeable. These women artists were mostly taught by their parents who were artists too. XXX’s parents were not artists. She was taught by the teacher--- question: Why the professor taking about the teacher of the xxx ---listen carefully. Her parents did something. Whatever, I missed this part. Later on, the professor gives another example, Mary Beale who had her own art studio. Her husband was the manager of her studio. Then one student says: “it is very interesting that she gained money more than her husband”. Then professor says that Bill used to get lots of commission from her 83 paintings in the peak year. If she could get same money from the commission as this year did, she will …---Please listening carefully, here has one question regarding the professor’s attitude. Another Question: what does this reading taking about? Some information from internet: Mary Beale(1632-1697): English portrait painter. An independent professional artist she had a prolific career. One record kept by her husband Charles Beale establishes that in one year alone she completed eighty-three commissioned works. One of Mary and Charles Beale's sons, also known as Charles Beale went on to a career as a painter.
