004 Which is more important, book knowledge or experience

In a modern society, people always face the dilemma to choose which is more important knowledge gained from books or experience? Different people hold people hold different view due to different experience and backgrounds. This problem is much debated one in that it affects everybody in their daily lives. Considering the arguments of both sides, my opinion is that both the books and the experience are the main ways from which people obtain knowledge.

In general, knowledge gained from books has a wider range than that gained from experience. Unlike the experience of an individual that is limited by the range of that individual, book seems to have almost no limitation. A good example can be found in the case that sitting in the community library, we virtually can travel everywhere though an interesting geographic encyclopedia, and certainly, with nearly no expense at all. However, no one can ignore that, compare to the experienced knowledge, sometimes we suffer under some of the handicaps caused by authors limitation special in history and philosophy.

On the other hand, someone can be advocated that sometimes knowledge gained from experience is much more simply, directly and comprehensive than that gained from books. It is quite obviously that not everything is contained in books. There is an very persuasive example is that how to deal with personal finance, how to catch up with current social trend, even how to most efficiently and effectively express our own minds and feelings, and numerous other things can seldom be found thoroughly and comprehensively discussed in books, we have to gain the knowledge by our own experience. Nevertheless, it is hard to avoid the drawbacks such as that the knowledge gained from experience is less systematically than that gained from books.

If all the above-mentioned factors are considered, we can safely find out that we could not treat different matters at the same when confront with the problem that which is more important knowledge gained from books or experience. Some knowledge can be acquired only through books such as history and literate. On the other hand, some knowledge can be obtained only through experience such as mountain climbing and swimming skill. Moreover, more knowledge need to be got simultaneously both from books and experiences. Take learning physics or chemistry for examples, both books and experiences are equally important sources. Therefore, which knowledge is more important depends on the circumstances.
