Movie popular? One of the most favorite pastimes of people today is watching movies. Movie can teach us a great amount about the world, especially the movies that come from other cultures. When watching a foreign movie, we can learn about the landscape and scenery, ethics and customs, and historical events of the country. Movies are so popular because they are the most fascinating and easiest way to escape from the increasing living pressure, which comes from the family, school, working place, society, and so many other places. Combined with acoustic and visual effect, movies are definitely more appealing for audience who have exhausted themselves in the real word then are those printed novels. All an audience has to do is simply to sit in a chair sofa in the dark. Captured, involved, the audience will forget everything but the fascinating story on the screen. Also, movies have the magic power to let people immerse themselves in fiction. Almost everyone long for the power of making his/her wishes or dreams came true by simply snapping fingers. That can be true in movies. Every move of the character makes, every breath he takes, all seem to happen around, and clearly sensible. There are many kinds of movies, such as science fiction, comedy, horrid, and so on. Audiences can choose the movies according to their favors, assuming themselves to be the main actor, and play out the different side of them. It is the movies that give us the opportunity to go through the experiences we may not have in the real world. Watching movies also teach us about a country’s ethic and history. For example, there are many movies about the American wars, such as Gone with the Wind. It shows the strong will that the American people have, and their determination to become independent. As for the reasons stated above, there is no wonder why movies are still so popular even after 100 years of its invention.
Hard work/ good luck? There is a humorous saying in English, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the valley”. The saying is used ironically to point out that there is a temptation in us all to insist that others are more fortunate than ourselves. This is nowhere more true than on the question of luck and hard work. When faced the “bad times”, we often find comfort in the idea that we are special in our degree of misfortune. I feel that such an attitude is negative, and that it can bring only further misfortune. Many famous successful people had been through their “bad times”, however, they succeeded due to their hard works. The explorer Caption Cook was so poor that, as a child, he had to work by day and study by night. Mao was the son of a peasant. Many of the famous Americans today are the children of the poor immigrants of yesterday. Beethoven, who should be remembered, became deaf before the end of his career. Suffering sharpens our senses. Poverty can not be reduced by merely complaining and blaming others, instead, each individual should reach out to success for himself. Some economists believe that the world operates under what they call “the rule of jungle”, which means in an economy world a person always attempts to gain profit from his neighbor. We all live in an economy world, which means, if we merely complain and blame about our “bad times”, we will never reach out success because of the existence of others’ hard-working. Also, it is presumptuous to judge another according to his or her apparent situation. No man can ever truly understand the sufferings of his neighbor. A man who appears comfortably rich may have suffered elsewhere in his life, through the death of loved ones, for example. Successful businessman had worked long hours in their youth. To relay on the notion of luck, to believe that life is a kind of lottery, is an attempt to escape reality. Paradoxically, the only time a person can claim that luck is more important than work is when he reflects on his own success. Because of that modesty, the great man then becomes even greater. Dissatisfaction—progress? Many of the world’s religions share a belief that a person can begin to travel the road to emotional recovery when is able to look at and confess his or her problems. A problem can not be solved until it’s well organized. I agree with the statement above because I believe that dissatisfaction, which means a clearly understanding of present situation, forces people to change. History presents many examples of dissatisfaction and change. The history of china in this century might be seen as one of dissatisfaction and progress. Sun was discontent with the decaying imperial order, so he created the revolution. Mao was dissatisfied with the course of the events and he intensified the revolution. Finally, Deng pushed the Chinese economy towards free-market economics. Hence, China progressed towards its new-found superpower status. In not a similar way, during the eighteenth century many Americans became annoyed with the direct British rule, and so the United States fought for and gained political independence. On a personal level, dissatisfaction can lead to changes within friendship and marriage. On clearly understanding the problem, the relationships can last for a longer time than we assumed. Friends or couples can have a face-to-face conversation to confront and discuss their problems, instead of ending the relationship. The best method of utilizing dissatisfaction is to change the situation before it gets out of control. As a student, for example, the knowing of parents’ dissatisfaction with his academic marks might lead to his hard working and the improvement. Because the poor marks might piss off parents and the son/daughter will not able to get the pin money. An intelligent statesman will try best to understand the mood of his people. To take the idea further, an astute man will even anticipate potential dissatisfaction and therefore take precautions to change the dissatisfactions into progress. I agree with the above statement because I believe that we mature through dissatisfaction. Without the ability to recognize our discontent, we could collapse into idleness.
