parallelism (not only blow ... but also causing).

not only ... but also ... 结构里的also可以省略。C的parallel最好。E除了上述的错误，还有个毛病是不简洁。

2,not only....but also中间打段或插入其他对不对?were not only able to transform the gas into a solid, but were also able to create..这样对吗?

似乎not only ... but also要求绝对的对称和平行，而not only ... but其实是它的简化版。后者我在google上大概搜索到4750万个用法（不含also的网页而不是句子）

首先申明我自己和各位（除了二楼）一样做错此题。但是不怪我们，实在是GMAC太狡猾了。

not only...but also 用在一个事物的两面性或者同时发生的两个事物上，但是这里不一样。大家翻译一下逻辑意思就知道，一个是固体，一个是半导体。有明显的递进含义，且我估计不能同时发生——这个请学物理的同学详解。   

所以是not... but ...，只不过多了个only修饰not。

还是那句话——GMAC太狡猾了。
