got a rej. from Umich Macc.

it's not a big shock.but I happened to know they screened my application documents before admission committee review.shame on Umich.

how did they sent rej. without reading their applicants' profile.

they didn't do their job.they should reimburse me the $75!

How did you know that they just screened rather than reviewed your whole application package? If you can support your claim, you can stand asking for a refund.

I made an appointment and talked to them.

They were just too busy to handle so many applications this year. So they ignored mine.

Top universities like UMICHIGAN have a very big pool of applicants. To reduce the workload of the admission committee, the admission sift through the appllications by lising all the applicants' standard test scores and GPA  on a spreadsheet by a descending order. Then they set a cut off line and kick out those who could not pass the line. After that, the selected applicantions woulb be forward to the admission committee for reviewing.

I have a friend who already got her MS in economics at a middle level US univesity with a straight A transcript, 1300+ GRE score, 3 strong letters of references from American professors, a conference paper at AEA but she had been rejected by the UMichigan Eco phd program.

So, you should never regard youself as the only one with strong profile, you never know how competitive are those other applicants.

yea,it sucks you cannot get into the school near home

but sometimes, life is just like a joke...I hope that you can have better choice.
