How can you identify these programs? 1. They tend to cooperate with second tier programs in Europe, North America, and Asia such as Pace, Arizona State, Fordham, U. of Maryland, Washington University at St. Louis, NUS, CUHK, etc. The top tier schools won't do this. They care more about their own reputation. 2. Their faculties are from other areas, such as economics, engineering, mathematics and so on but not from business schools. Some of the faculties are Adjunct faculties in foreign schools which should not be counted as a serious faculty member. Many Chinese students do not distinguish between different categories of faculties outside of China. You should check to see if these faculties are tenure track or not. 3. It is hard to get information on the web to collect data on the courses they offer, the faculties standing in their field such as working papers, top journal publications and so on. you should also check where they got their PhDs. 4. During Road shows, they will discuss some soft issues such as how to change a field and so on but nothing verifiable or falsifiable. If you ask them some tough questions, they will skip to other questions. 5. Using media, advertising and the tendency that Chinese students overvalue foreign schools to mislead uninformed applicants. Some media in China will write anything for money. Think twice if the program you are applying have some of the characteristics I provided here.
