BW forum上看到的,看来老美也在考虑Ross or Fuqua... -------------------------------- Hello all: I think that I may have some good insights into this discussion, as I chose to come to Fuqua over Ross last year. Further, I did my undergraduate work at Michigan, and my sister attended Ross. I believe that in most of the important categories, Duke and Michigan are pretty much a wash. The career services here at Duke have been outstanding, and there has not been a single desirable company out there who has not recruited in some form or fashion here at Fuqua. I have spoken to a number of Ross students while at second round interviews at company locations or at company sell days, and in our comparison of recruiting stories, it appears that we are playing the same game, so to speak. In terms of the difference between a private a public institution, I think that one very important distinction to make is that Duke has a student population in the neighborhood of 7 or 8,000 students, while the Michigan student body approaches 5 times that. As an undergad, I enjoyed all the hustle and bustle, but then again, I was 19 years old and partied quite a bit on the weekends. As a graduate student in a very demanding MBA program, I like the size of the Duke community as a whole. Leading into Lifestyle/People/Neighborhoods, I feel as though Michigan is very much a midwestern college town. Living expenses are pretty high for such a small city, and there is a lot going on. Durham, on the other hand, is exceptionally affordable, and the campus is just that, a campus. Parking isn't quite the issue that it is in Ann Arbor. While we have good restaurants to frequent, and a handful of good bars, it's a bit quieter here than in Ann Arbor. And, believe it or not, I really value that, as I am neck deep in a rigorous MBA program, and not really in need of a ton of extra distractions (namely, an undergraduate population of 25,000 students). North Carolina absolutely detroys Michigan in the weather debate...it is February 12th as a write this and we saw a high temperature of 61 degrees today, with a glorious sunny sky (I spent an hour outside reading). And, on that note, as someone who spent 25 years of my life in Michigan, I can attest that it is never the cold that really does you in, it is the 60+ days in a row of no sunshine from January 10-March 10. As far as facilities go, I think both schools have great facilities that are only getting better. Our campus here at Fuqua is outstanding, and we are in the process of building a gigantic addition which will only improve what I considered to be the best facilities I saw while visiting business schools. That said, Michigan's facilities are great as well. Finally, and most importantly, the quality of the student body. This, in the end, is why I chose Duke over Michigan. I have never been around a more dynamic, diverse and interesting group of people as I have here at Fuqua. I could sense the culture of this place when I was a prospective student, and am reminded daily of why I made such a wise decision to come here. There is something special about a Fuqua student, we all have such interesting backgrounds and strories. I know that the Ross students are great as well, but I would challenge you to come to both sell weekends and check it out for yourself. Also, I think that in addition to what I have mentioned, one of the biggest draws of coming to Duke is that this is a school where you will be able to make a tremendous impact. I have been involved in helping to shape the future of this institution, and am extremely happy to be part of a school where the students are leaders within the organization. Some of the best "STAR" stories I have told in interviews that have resulted in job offers for me have been stories about my leadership experiences here at Fuqua. Best of luck on your decision. I know I struggled for weeks with my own, but am extremely glad I made the choice I did. Charles ---------------------------------------------------------
