I copied and pasted the majority of my admission letter from the office of internation affairs. Hope it helps....
We are pleased to learn that you have been accepted to the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. Our office, the International Services office (IS), handles advisement on immigration for international students in the Carey Business School.
Please contact this office as soon as possible and let us know if you are intending to accept the offer of admission and will need a certificate of eligibility (Form I-20). In order for our office to issue an I-20, we will need to receive the following documents on or before July 1, 2007 to begin classes for the Fall 2007 semester. We cannot receive these documents after July 1st. (Mr. Lu, please email our office in April and request new financial documents. Fall 07 session is considered a new academic year, and there may be a slight increase in tuition and living expenses.) If you are outside of the United States (U.S.), we recommend that you send the documents by May 1st (we cannot accept them any earlier), in case there are delays in receiving your visa.
1) Financial documentation-Complete and submit the attached, "Statement of Financial Resources and Affidavit of Support" forms, along with the financial documentation. Please read the entire form and pay close attention to all directions, or the documentation will be invalid. Please see the form for details on acceptable documentation. If submitting an "Affidavit of Support," it must be notarized.
2) Transfer information-If you are currently in the U.S. and intend to transfer your F-1 visa status from another U.S. college or university, you will need to do the following:
a) Complete ONLY the top portion of the attached "School Transfer Eligibility Form" and return it to this office. At that point, do NOT give it to the international office at your current school.
b) Provide our office with the name, telephone number, fax number, and email address of the international adviser at your current school. We will then send the form to the adviser. c) Complete the transfer procedure according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) guidelines. If you fail to do so, you will be "out of status" with the USCIS. At that time you will need to reapply for reinstatement of status, for which the current fee is $200.00. Please note that an application of reinstatement does not guarantee that the F-1 visa status will be approved. If denied reinstatement, you will need to return to your home country immediately.
d) Send to International Services office, copies of the I-20 from your current school, U.S. visa stamp in passport, passport identification pages, and the front and back of your latest I-94 (arrival/departure) card. **All financial and transfer information must be original documents** Please mail the originals to: Johns Hopkins University, International Services, 6740 Alexander Bell Drive, Suite 150, Columbia MD 21046 3) Additional information-Our office will request copies of your acceptance letter, application, and TOEFL information directly from the admissions office. **Please pay particular attention to the English language proficiency requirements as defined in the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School catalog at: http://onestop.jhu.edu/academic-support/printable-catalog/ , under the section, “International Student Admission.” Our office cannot issue an I-20 if the English language proficiency requirements are not met.** The United States (U.S.) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires all F-1 visa applicants to pay a one-time fee of $100 to supplement the administration and maintenance costs of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). The fee must be paid at least 3 business days prior to applying for the F-1 visa and can only be paid to the DHS via mail, the Internet, or through Western Union. Please see the attached handout for more details. Please be informed, if you are already in the U.S. on a valid F-1 student visa and plan to transfer to the Johns Hopkins University, without exiting the U.S., you will not be required to pay the SEVIS fee. If, however, you plan to leave the U.S. and re-enter with an “Initial” status I-20, rather than a “Transfer Pending” I-20, you will be required to pay the SEVIS fee. If you are outside of the country you will need to allow enough time so that you arrive in the United States to start classes no later than the beginning of the semester, as indicated by the program start date on your I-20. Your start date for the 2007 Fall semester will be August 20, 2007 for the International Students orientation. Due to USCIS regulations, you are not allowed to enter the country more than 30 days before the start date on your I-20. Consequently, we recommend that you register for a full course load (9 credits graduate, 12 credits undergraduate) before your arrival, if possible, to avoid the risk of classes being full. Contact the academic program adviser named in your admission letter for assistance with this. Students who enroll full time in the Carey Business School will need to register for classes at more than one campus throughout the Baltimore-Washington DC metropolitan area. The University does not provide students with transportation between the five campuses, and public transportation is limited. Many of our students find it helpful to have their own transportation. In addition, the Carey Business School does not have on-campus housing for its students. While it is the student’s responsibility to secure housing, I have attached Baltimore-Washington area apartment listings. Upon request from you, this office can send you a list of email contact addresses for some of our current international students on F-1 visas. While they are from many different countries and are in different programs, these students share many things in common with adjusting to living in the area. They are a great source of information for incoming students. If you have any questions regarding this or other visa related matters, we encourage you to contact this office at 410-872-1210. We hope to see you in the near future. Sincerely, Betsy Emery -- International Services Carey Business School School of Education Johns Hopkins University
