OG introduction,12  GMAT Test Format

The test includes the types of questions found in this Guide, but the format and presentation of the questions are different on the computerWhen you take the exam

·  Only one question at a time is presented on the computer screen.

·  The answer choices for the multiple-choice questions will be preceded by circlesrather than by letters

·  Different question types appear in random order in the multiple-choice sections of the test.

·  You must select your answer using the computer

·  You must choose an answer and confirm your choice before moving on to the next question

·  You may not go back to change answers to previous questions.

It means that circle instead of English letter,i.e. A, B,C,D,or E precedes each of the answer choices.

15 Verbal Section

The GMAT Verbal section measures your ability to read and comprehend written materialto reason and evaluate argumentsand to correct written material to conform to standard written English. Because the Verbal Section includes reading sections from several different content areas, you may be generally familiar with some of the material; however, neither the reading passages nor the questions assume detailed knowledge of the topics discussed.

18 How Are Scores Calculated?

Your GMAT scores are determined by

·  the number of questions you answer

·  whether you answer correctly or incorrectly

·  the level of difficulty and other statistical characteristics of each question

110 Test Development Process

The GMAT exam is developed by experts who use standardized procedures to ensure high-quality, widely appropriate test material All questions are subjected to independent reviews and are revised or discarded as necessaryMultiple choice questions are tested during GMAT   test administrationsAnalytical Writing Assessment tasks are tried out on first-year business school students and then assessed for their fairness and reliabilityFor more information on test developmentsee www.mba.com

20   How To Prepare

21   How Can l  Best Prepare to Take the Test?

We at the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC)firmly believe that the test-taking skills you can develop by using this book-and The Official Guide for GMAT Review,11tb Edition, if you can additional practice-are all you need to perform your best when you take the GMAT test

By answering questions that have appeared on the GMAT exam beforeyou will gain experience with develop confidence in your ability to reason through the test questions .No additional techniques or strategies are needed to do well on the standardized test if you develop a practical familiarity with the abilities it requires. Simply by Practicing and understanding the concepts that are assessed on the exam, you will learn what you need to know to answer the questions correctly.

212 develop confidence

214 the concepts that are assessed on the exam,

1.     The Wallerstein study indicates that even after a decade young men and women still experience some of the effects of a divorce occurring when a child.

(A) occurring when a child

(B) occurring when children

(C) that occurred when a child

(D) that occurred when they were childrenD

(E) that has occurred as each was a child

Choice D is best. The phrasing a divorce that occurred when they were children correctly uses the relative clause that occurred to modify a divorce and includes a pronoun and verb (they were) that refer unambiguously to their antecedent, men and women. Choice A incorrectly introduces the when... phrase with occurring, thus illogically making divorce the grammatical referent of when a child; furthermore, the singular child does not agree with the plural men and women. B replaces child with children but otherwise fails to correct A’s errors of structure and logic, and C corrects only the error created by occurring. Choice E includes an incorrect verb tense (has occurred) and wrongly replaces when with as. Also, each was does not properly refer to men and women.

1.
