原来如此，是个固定用法吧，偶记下了。。。

这个句子你是直接找到译本的嘛？ 如果不是，觉得这个句子应该没有that。

你可以这样看这句子

I hope you can recognize how much you do know about the sub.

我想你可能是因为“by my saying” 这个 gerund 结构所迷惑了。 看句子的时候如果觉得困惑，可以把其他的忽略，只看subject, verb, object

口语中我就喜欢在宾语从句前面加that，会不会也是犯了这个错误呢?

在开始的时候，教授问学生

How far along have you gotten?至今为止你已经有那些材料了？

中间又有一些对话，

然后这里I hope you can recognize by my saying that how much you do know about the subject

 that引导定语从句，修饰saying， how much you do know about the subject指的就是前面问过的How far along have you gotten?我希望你从我前面问过你的问题：你到底知道多少你的subject，你从这个问题中能认识你的目前的情况。也就是在鼓励学生。

说的有点啰嗦，不太会表达。
