I got invitation today but I'm in China. Do you think it is necessary to make a trip to New Haven for interview? 

If you are in China, I don't think it's necessary to make a trip to New Haven only for the interview. If you happen to be on a business trip to the US, you can take this opportunity to visit the campus. Otherwise no need.
