急问申请ph.d的ps要不要写研究方向？

ps已经写完了。有人说要写写对那个具体的方向感兴趣。有的人说不用写，因为本来对那个领域就知之甚少，基本上是白纸一张，写不出什么高深的东西来。（本人本科学了些金融，研究生读的是文科,想申请finance ph.d).
