6．And there are a lot of areas where we may not have full agreement, but, nevertheless, are able to discuss our disagreement in a very cordial way.

7.And I urge the parties to continue those discussions.我力劝有关各方持续这样的对话。

urge sb to do sth: 催促（力劝，强烈要求）某人做某事。

 

例：We urged her to reconsider the offer, but she refused.

 我们竭力地怂恿她再一次考虑这个提议，但她拒绝了。

 

8. I believe it is possible, through discussion and goodwill, to end up solving this issue in a        peaceful way.

我相信经由对话和善意，最终和平解决台海问题是可能的。

例如：I don’t think our relationship will end up parting.

      我认为我们的关系不会以分手告终。

 

9. And, therefore, it’s in our interest that we share ideas and works together.

 因此我们双方交换意见共同合作，符合我们的利益。

 

10. There wasn’t much exposure to the West, and all of a sudden, an American starts riding a bike amongst them and it frankly, surprised some people.

例：We must take steps to help the families of those who were hurt in the flood.

   我们必须采取措施来帮助那些在洪灾中遭受到伤害的家庭。

 

15.I think in large measure, his ascendancy to the Presidency is informed by his need.我想，他登上宝座很大程度是出于本身需要。

  Inform on/against:告发……

  例：The thief informed on his accomplice.那个小偷供出了他的同伙。

 

17. Can he measure up to Dad?

   他能和他爸爸吗？

 

18. If it’s in the way, it’s out of the way.

如果问题出现了，妨碍了我们，就应该去解决问题。

 

19.He agonized over his own future.他对自己的前途倍感担忧。

 agonize over/with: 对……感到担忧，感到极度痛苦。

 

20.It sort of freed him up to take advantage of the whole network.

  他好好利用起整个关系网。

  sort of : 稍微，有几分

  例：The man was sort of peculiar.那个男的有点怪怪的。

 Everyone gave a damn about the trouble-causer.

人人都在谴责那个肇事者。
