请问关于mail items 中cover sheet的问题

有的学校说要一个Cover Sheet ,再加成绩单啊，推荐信什么的，有的学校说要一个Cover letter,再加那些东西。请问这个Cover Sheet 和 Cover letter是一回事吗?还有这是什么东西啊?我原先一直以为是学校让自己准备个那种象硬纸壳夹子似的东西，那种可以把资料放里面，外面写上自己的姓名，生日，等等的一个保护纸壳,方便学校放我资料的~~但是看到Cover letter这个词出来之后感觉我理解的不对，请问到底这些都是什么东西?

I do not know what "有的学校说要一个Cover Sheet " mean. But when I sent my application, I attached a piece of paper listing all the materials in the package.

It has nothing to do with 硬纸壳夹子似的东西.

Cover Sheet
Include in the mailing packet a cover sheet confirming the exact name used during completion of your web-based application, the W. P. Carey MBA program to which you are applying, and your date of birth (month/day only). This information is used for authentication and matching purposes only.

Cover letter
Indicating the enrollment period to which you originally applied, including your intention to reapply for the current enrollment period and an indication if you would like to be considered for Merit-Based funding (full-time applicants only)
