If either of these advantages were not true, then it is logical to infer that the record would be less useful.

If either, or both, of the statements give(s) sufficient information to solve the problem, select the answer corresponding to the description of which statement(s) give(s) sufficient information to solve the problem.
是不是表示both of the statements give.../ either of the statements gives....,还是说either of the statesments give(s)....

Neither of the conditions is met.

either one of two cases holds true.

No reason is given to indicate that the inability to reuse the plastic from either type of container
is related to the amount of plastic in either container.

So for an option to be correct it must support either (1) or (2) or both, and provide more such support than the other options.

either one/type of+ 名词 + v(单数)
neither of 复名 +v(单数)
either A or B ,从后不从前,AB平行,形式一致
either A or B or C  结构存在,ABC平行,形式一致

either of +名词复数 + 动词单数  因为此处的either为代词,由A OF B结构可知,either才是中心词。

If either of these advantages were not true, then it is logical to infer that the record would be less useful.

[quote]
(From BBC world service)
The quantity determiners any, either, neither and none are sometimes used with a singular verb and sometimes used with a plural verb when they function as the subject of the clause.

Although the singular verb may be formally correct, in usage there is no strong preference for one or the other. So I think you may feel free to choose whichever you think best, depending, perhaps, on how strong you think the idea of plurality is.

Compare the following pairs and see which you prefer:

I invited four policemen to my wedding but none was present.
I invited four policemen to my wedding but none were present.
I have two sisters but neither of them is married.
I have two sisters but neither of them are married.
I don't think either of them deserves a husband.
I don't think either of them deserve a husband.
I don't think any of the children is invited to the wedding reception.
I don't think any of the children are invited to the wedding reception.

Either the cows or the goats have to go.& Either the elephant or the goats have to go.

anyway,the singular is better!

About one in every 20 people have clinical depression
