The figure above represents a square garden that is divided into 9 rectangular regions with indicated dimensions in meters.  The shaded regions are planted with peas, and the unshaded regions are planted with tomatoes.  If the sum of the areas of the regions planted with peas is equal to the sum of the areas of the regions planted with tomatoes, what is the value of x?

 

A.     0.5

B.     1

C.     1.5

D.   2

E.    2.5

The answer is C, but my answer is x=2.25. Is there anybody who can help me? Thanks!

這題都沒人回 小弟剛剛自己想通了所以貢獻一下

The garden is a square so both sides should be 9. Then the middle region on the bottom side should 9-3-x = 6-x

Then, set the equation to let the sum of the shaded region equal to the sum of the white region, namely,

2(3x3) + 3(6-x) + 2(3x) = 3(3) + 2[3(6-x)] + 3x

solve and get x = 1.5
