I am a 2nd year Tuck student. I want to make a few comments: 1. Life at Tuck is great. Tuck is not truly in countryside. Midwest & southern US is where you find country. It's in NE so is still NE typical. It's 2 hours away from Boston, which is very drivable on the weekends. The great thing about being in a small town is that you spend quality time with your classmates, professors and staff members at Tuck and develop lifelong relationships with these people. That's also why Tuck's alumni network is so strong (Tuck has the highest rate for alumni giveback). If you go to a school in a big city, your classmates and professors are gone after classes and you won't get to know them as well. We are very busy at Tuck. You will find that you don't nearly have enough time to do everything you want. Classes, projects and meetings take a lot of time, and then there are numerous student activities (such as a Tucktail every week, various ethnical parties throughout the school year, all kinds of club activities, and sports). It's beautiful in Hanover for all 4 seasons. Spring, summer and fall are very pleasant - summer is not hot at all compared with Shanghai and Beijing. Winter is cold, but just like Beijing yet not as dry. So if you are OK with Beijing's winter, you should feel comfortable in Hanover. Many students ski in the winter. Vermont/NH is famous for skiing. And of course it is cheaper to live in Hanover than a big City. The only bad thing about a smaller city is that there are not as many restaurants and bars. But what we have here has worked for all Tuck students, and we love Tuck and Hanover. 2. All top consulting companies & banks come to Tuck to recruit, together with many Fortune 100 companies for general management. Because Tuck is top 10, we get many great companies. In our info session this past Sunday, I talked about Tuck's employment statistics. Almost everyone found a job as of 3 months after graduation, and Tuck student's average compensation is one of the highest among top 10. All of the 06 Chinese students found great jobs. And it's looking even better for 07 students. Tuck students do very well in internships either in banks, consulting firms or corporations. We are liked most by many recruiters compared with other top schools because we are as smart and capable, but we have better teamwork abilities since Tuck places strong emphasis on Teamwork. 3. Tuck does not have a preference/prejudice for race/ethnicity when giving out scholarships. In my class (07), I know at least one Chinese person got 1 $40,000 scholarship and one got a $20,000 scholarship. Probably a couple other other Chinese students got a scholarship as well. Tuck is very diverse and likes diversity. Since we want to be and are getting more and more international, being a Chinese applicant doesn't place you at disadvantange, if not at advatange. |
