OG解释说这里用as引导短语就是错的，为什么？？？还有我知道a method是作为同位语来就近解释的，那这里它是解释items of military equipment呢？还是解释military equipment，为什么？还有一个问题，正确答案是C，那么protecting是修饰animal-hide shields with wooden frames were essential items of military equipment这句话的吗？如果不是，那它是在修饰谁呢？

拙见：

as一般都是引导句子，我知道有一种情况除外： when sb was in a particular age group， 这时候可以引导短语

比如 as a little boy。

protecting应该是修饰的主句的主语，也就是shields

请nn指点
