It is true that Kellogg is very strong in marketing, attracting a lot of marketing positions. However, if you look at the career acceptance information, consulting actually is the biggest one, followed by marketing and finance. All major firms and companies come to Kellogg, and they have openings in all different kinds of functions.

I knew a first-year who went to Eli Lily (a drug company) for maketing intership and a second year joined a pharmaceutical company for marketing research last year.

Marketing is a very general term. If you are thinking about marketing in the traditional CPG firms, it is not easy, for two reasons. First, many CPG firms don't support H1. Second, you need to know their products and American culture very well.

However, if you are thinking about marketing in some special area such as phamaceutical or IT, and if you have related background, I don't think it's that hard. Some IT companines even don't view their product manager position as a pure marketing position.

今年有2个audit background的新同学,一个在国内的BIG 4工作了5年,在美国的BIG 4工作了2年,另外一个在国内的BIG 4工作了3年(具体情况可以参考2006年的申请录取汇总),如果没有错这应该是Kellogg今年唯一从4大招的人,而且Kellogg去年也录取了一个EY BEIJING的审计师,有BIG 4经验的同志们不妨勇敢地试一试.

您说的"CPG"指的是啥呢?它和IT或制药有不同的地方吗?在US marketing 是不是需要很强的英语表达 ?

Consumer packaged goods (CPG) are consumable goods such as food and beverages, footwear and apparel, tobacco, and cleaning products. How is it different from other products? CPG is all about marketing, while for others, you need to have some other related background. For example, it's probably hard to do IT product marketing without any engineering background.

For any function/industry in the US, you cannot do well without strong English skills. However, marketing requires more knowledge on American culture. For example, every year, Super Bowl is one of the biggest TV commercial time for CPG firms. If you don't know football at all, how can you know how to target those football fans?
