以下是引用bimetallic在2006-9-2 7:13:00的发言:"Each B-School has someone who did bad, even for Harvard or Wharton. " Some top b school graduates did well but in a wrong way. Jeff Skilling got his MBA from Harvard. He became the CEO of Enron but eventually was convicted for conspiracy and insider trading. His alumnus G. W. Bush became Uncle Sam, Co.'s President and started two wars in the mid-east. In fact, Jeff Skillings is a genius. He is really smart and his many ideas were beyond his times. Even at present, his many ideas, such as use forward to transact water and broadcast, can not be accpeted by the financial world. But I believe in future, people will start to accept these brilliant ideas. The bottom line is that Jeff is the first person who traded energy as a financial derivative. This is one of the most significant contributions to the financial market in the recent 20 years. Now take a look at the future market for energy, you can not deny his long-term sight. Enron is a great company. Its collapse is really a tragedy. This is not just one person's fault. The whole US business world should take responsibility for its collapse. Arthur Anderson, all top IBs in the market, irrational investors......how can they just attribute the collapese of one giant just to Jeff or Ken Lay? If you once read the famous book "The smartest guys in the room", you will feel a lot sympathy for Jeff and Ken. They are vanguards in the energy business. Their collaspe was due to several bad investments in emerging markets and some of their ideas too aggressive to ordinary financial professionals (such as the water future concept). yeah, they used some false statement to increase the stock price. However, the rule is once you could not provide a satisfying report, your stock will collaspe and then your image. Then all banks will refuse to give you loans which can turnover your fate. The tragedy is in the public company system itself, not just on one person or one company. If, just if, Enron's issues were not exposed by that stupid vice president who would be fired soon, I believed Enron would have not collapsed so quickly. If, only if, it could live for two more years, it would become one of the strongest company at present. Considering the hiking of oil and energy price, Jeff Skillings is a great winner. Enron would have gained billions of dollars from its future contracts. Jeff would have become one of the greatest CEOs in modern history. However, he failed. Just one small step before the gate to glory. All in all, ENron's collapse is a great tragedy. I think we can not blame Jeff more on this issue. Everyone will have bad luck. His bad luck just came at an inappropriate time
