I don't have a good answer to most of the questions here but I'll put down my 2 cents anyway since the LZ is not here.

My impression is the majority went on working for leading IB/MCs, but honestly speaking I didn't track the numbers.

For every business school, leadership matters. If I have to name one thing that GSB uniquely cares, I would say "independent thinking". (This could be my illusion anyway. So please take my words with a grain of salt.)

No, not at all. There are simply lots of fun activities and it's really up to you. But, hey, with all the recruiting events, your free time is limited and you really have to choose your activities wisely.

following the 5th point, i'd concur chicago's "flexibility" well applies to how you want to spend your time at the gsb. a friend of mine graduated after 5 quarters. he knew what he wanted to do, and didn't really socialize as much as others.

According to Dennis in <Chase Dream 顶级MBA申请成功人访谈>:

第一轮申请IB和Consulting的人很多，BSchool也，着重在第一轮招这些人。其他传统背景最好第二轮申请。

Chicago的兄弟姐妹，是否能帮忙做个2005年的小统计？如果真有此事，我也要考虑第二轮再申chicago和Wharton了,因为这两个是我最想进的。

Quite interested in the "flexibility" of Chicago... it seems that the lifestyle of students might be quite different from one another. 

When mba2007 and shouyang12 mentioned the "independent thinking", do u mean that teamwork is not that stressed at GSB as it was at other big name BS? I am also wondering whether students form study groups in GSB to tackle in-class discussions and after-class assignments.

Teamwork is always a big part in any business school, though the experience varies on individuals and schools. Unlike some of the peer schools, because of its flexible curriculum, Chicago GSB doesn't enforce a "static" team. That is, you "dynamically" form a study group for every single class. In this context, even the binding of cohort is quite loose as the only prominent time for the whole cohort to sit together is the LEAD class in the first quarter. I see good and bad on this. The good part is you'll have a chance to team with many different people so you can taste a variety of styles. The bad is you'll hardly build any significant personal relationship with anyone unless you happen to team with a few cool dudes for more than one quarter. Bottom line, you'll have your chance to pick who you like to team with quarter by quarter, and this may or may not be your cup of tea.

The "independent thinking" I mentioned really refers to the Chicago philosophy. That is, not to be intimidated by the conventional thinking but to be willing to challenge the status quo with solid facts and reasoning.

In summary, Chicago GSB is a good place for folks knowing what they want to do and having a rough idea on how to get there. They come to GSB to fine-tune their plan and equip themselves more tools to increase their odds of success in the future.
