偶觉得两个that从句并列，前一个that 引导的宾语从句中有比较结构，应该是profit与profit相比较，

因为偶觉得补上是

The company announced that its profits declined much less in the second quarter than 
                    its profits analysts had expected  and ......

 同样的性质才能比较，因为比较的与前面一样，所以可以省略，可也把这样的句子看作是than比较的常用句式，因为ETS喜欢简洁有效。。
