Whether employees should enroll their personal activities in their workplace depends on how the activities influence the effectiveness of the worker as well as the organization as a whole. While the authors recommend that personal activities should be thoroughly excluded from the workplace has its reasons, in my point of view, personal activities can aid the performance of the workers thus the organization, when properly enrolled in the workplace. Basic to any understanding of collegiality is that it is based on the familiarity between coworkers. Personal interaction between each other can help coworkers know each other better, thus improve collegiality. For example, engaging coworkers in some conversation or activities about personal interests will not only release the stress in the workplace but also strengthen the friendship between employees, which in turn improve the effective ness of the group as a whole by enabling employees to work in a good mood and easy atmosphere. To illustrate, a good case is that the famous emerging multinational company Google, not only allow employees to communicate freely, but also allow them to take part in the sports or games which are their personal habits, such as swimming and golf. Either personal topics or problems of the work can take place in the conversation during these activities, such stress released atmosphere creates the basis for brain storming, aiding the generation of novel ideas. Moreover, the activities considering employees personal interests held in the company, if enroll not only employees but also managers, will strengthen the relation ship between employer and employees from an emotional scope. Specifically, the loyalty of workers will be further developed by such interaction, since they will feel emotional considered and respected. It can be illustrated by the common phenomena that most companies organize picnics, parties, excursions, and so forth during vacations or even during work days, in order to create the opportunity for the communication between employees, as well as between employees and bosses. Admittedly, companies should be aware of the personal activities to impinge upon the work or even intrude on workers. Over emphasis the importance of personal activities will lead to the inattention of work or the distraction of the limited energy of the workers. Excess chatting on the nun business topics, or frequent personal phone calls are always distracting. However, if these inappropriate behaviors are properly banned and the awareness of the employee upon the importance of work is improved, we can expect the advantages of involvement of personal activities in the workplace. In sum, though personal activities can intrude work if not managed properly, a balance between such activities and work will bring a lot of advantages such as collegiality between workers and the cohesiveness of the organization. Thus personal activities needn’t to be totally separated from the workplace, but enrolled in a managed way.
