I am assuming that you are asking for Chinese student. This year, no. It partially because most Darden student are general management/marketing/consulting focus.

It is not easy to get a job with a buy side investment management firm from any school. Darden has a Capital Management Club, and I know many of them (most of them are Americans) got a job in portfolio management. Companies do come to recruit at Darden, such as T.Rowe.Price, Fidelity, MetLife, EverGreen Investment, etc. But you need to network off-campus as well to reach out to those mutual & hedge funds. If this is your main focus, you may want to consider those finance schools, such as Chicago, NYU, Wharton, etc. (they have a better alum network in buy side)

What you want to know specifically? Darden is not an Operations-focused school (if you only want to concentrate on this direction, you may want to apply to MIT, or some 2-tier schools such as Penn State or Purdue), but given your supply-chain related experience and Pharm industry background, you should be able to try General Management or Management consulting (either Strategy or operations).

Darden's essays are quite different,may I ask some questions:

1)only 3 essays( 500+300+300 words),this is the shortest essay length I have ever seen. Does it mean essays are not as important as other schools? If so, which part is more important. ( I know all parts are important, but only with 1100 words,I afraid it may not provide a full picture about a applicant.)

2)for essays question 3, if I choose NO. 3, does it mean I have to use professional experience, rather than community service experience?

Eassy is definetely very important, in fact, it might be even more difficult to write a short essay than a longer essay. Shorter essay requires you must be concise, and at the same time express yourself.

here is the question:

You don't HAVE TO use professional experience. Actually if you do have community service experience, it might make yourself unique. As far as I know, I think many Chinese applicants don't have community service experience.

How you want to balance the professional/non-professional experience in ALL essays is totally your own decision.

I have submitted the self-report unofficial transcripts of my graduate and undergraduate study. When I print my application, it shows "Transcript received: NO". Do I also need to send the original official transcripts to Darden by mail?
