对答案D不能认同:

原因有二:

1. 对称: 这题考的不是介系词 of 和 in 本身的含意而是和整具内容对应. 如果开头只是是 no other historical sighting 那可以用 return of 1910-1911 因为事件对事件. 现在的开头是 "IN" no other historical sighting. 所以要选A. it's return 和 Halley's comet 对应. in 和 in 含意对应. (注意不是只是因为是同一介系词才选) historical sighting 对 1910-1911. 所以整句话还原应该是 as its return did in 1910-1911.  

2. 头重脚轻所以did 提前到 as 后.

A中的did不能省，否则会有歧义。C可能会被理解为cause such a worldwide sensation as (a sensation) in its return of ...。

我也会排除带OF的选项。

大家先讨论一下这里的as做什么成分，连词么，那么后面应该是主谓机构，那么看来A对了
