最后一段最后一句话的意思是：M87中心是A cluster of stars。
B选项，如果a cluster of stars 存在的话，将会使一些现在观察到的关于M87现象不成立。

但事实是观察到了那些现象，所以A cluster of stars 不存在。所以undermine the possible explanation

不知这样理解对不对？？？

偶也选的B，但系现在觉得A比较好，理由如下：

题目：Which of the following, if true, would most clearly undermine the possible explanation for the whirling gas in M87 that is mentioned in the last sentence of the first paragraph?（关键字是红色highlight的部分）

步骤1:找出last sentence of the first paragraph的possible explanation是啥。偶认为正是第二段所说的内容！！亦就是说作者举了一堆关于NGC 4258的东东来解释第一段最后一句话the concentration in M87 might be a cluster of a billion or so dim stars.是不可能对的！

步骤2：找出undermine的内容是啥。那就是找出能most seriously weaken第二段所说内容的选项，那显然是A！

open to discuss...
