Hithigh, thanks for your question. I am not sure what I understand is right, but I’d like to explain from my own opinion. Welcome to add from other perspectives, which would be a good brainstorming.
Many people doubt the vision of CK for TOP 10 business school. Professor Cao at least gives us a reasonable explanation. As you know, most of the professors in CK are Chinese who are very successful even in US or Europe. They get excellent training in western world and live there for more than ten years. Meanwhile, they are Chinese, which would be helpful to understand the business of China. In this way, they could combine western and eastern business together, which is not western and nor eastern, but beyond, we wish and we try, eastern and western, which is the best (the last sentence of the English version of the poem if my memory is correct). This is why CK employ mainly Chinese instead of western professors. They must know both China and western world.
It is also the reason that CK can compete with other top business school. China is now a growing market, which is fundamental for the possibility that China could have top 10 business schools. If China has the economic power like US, we would have best business schools, I mean, could be more than one, like US. Upon this premise and from China perspective, it is difficult for those western born professors to compete with those in CK. In this niche market, CK has the advantage and it can differentiate from other business school.
Business is, ultimately, culture oriented issues, even in finance, though people often say that mathematics is the key. But if you want to make a correct decision, the things behind mathematics would play a critical role. I have this kind of experiences, for my jobs are mainly in finance. It is also the reason why CK has the humanity course. And the students also initiate a culture club. Business is not only such skills as finance and marketing, but the things behind and beyond the MBA curriculum. For a long run, it is more important, combining Tao(道)with technique(术), which is not only a slogan. We all know the wealth of the west, but the start of western economy is from renaissance(文艺复兴), from culture. Economy development is largely the result of the renaissance.
Here, I do not want to mislead the applicants that CK only likes to talk big issues. Actually, we still know the importance of solid techniques and most of our time, more than 98% I think, in studying and practicing these skills.
I am here just “抛砖引玉”. I believe that others would have much deeper insights. I also wish China would have more top business schools in the world! CK is only a start. We do want a more powerful China! |
