诚心向各位兄弟姐妹请教：

一直以来自己也没有什么太多的主见。见到人家都纷纷考GMAT念研究生，我也就跟着也复习GMAT想申请研究生，见到人家都申请MBA，说这个专业多么的好，说将来可以当经理，挣多少多少钱，我也就跟着想申请MBA。

但是今天当我的一个亲戚问我到底想申请什么专业，想把未来的两年怎么安排的时候，我开始迷茫了。我到底申请个什么专业好呢？直到今天才知道MBA还要分好几个方向，不只是那么单一的一个学科。我的亲戚极力向我推荐申请“精算师”---听起来感觉挺“狠”的个专业。因为我的亲戚说这个专业就业能好些，比起我念MBA（因为我也不是什么牛人，TOP20的MBA也没敢想过，就一个普普通通的掉人堆里找不着的人）。他说现在的MBA一把一把的，你要不是TOP20出来的将来就业蛮难的。

恳请了解一些情况的兄弟姐妹帮帮忙，帮我想想是MBA好，还是精算师好？或者还有别的什么专业可以选择的也好？请向我推荐推荐。我总感觉念这个精算师应该蛮艰难的，因为我亲戚说数学的成分占的多，所以我想要是去念的话，两年里要吃的苦头肯定少不了，总感觉MBA就能比精算师轻松的多（因为我惰性比较强，喜欢轻松的学科，不喜欢念着太累的学科。）不知道是不是这么个情况，希望能帮我比较比较啊。而且我也不太想出加洲（因为出了加洲学费就会贵出一大截），但是听说加洲好象还没有带有精算师专业的大学。还有，将来我挺希望能回到中国大陆去工作，不知道哪个专业更适应于中国呢？

为了这么个选择上，也烦恼了好一阵了，所以发出来帖子希望得到大家的帮助，谢谢你们啦。

MBA就是个空架子。学的东西就象抹万金油。

top 7、10为什么比其他高一大节主要是招聘公司相信学校的录取过程能起个人才甄别的作用，减少交易费用。虽然top7、10学校也肯定有弱学生，2、3流的学校也有个别牛学生。这就是为什么牛公司通常只去几个自己的core school招人的重要原因。

要论教学、学东西top50就算有差别也大不到哪里去。

所以你个人如果没有一些hard skill又不擅长BS的话，读个一般般的MBA确实不如搞精算。.com泡沫时代是个MBA就能找高薪工作的时代一去不复返了。

As far as I know, UCSB has such a major. You can check that. Also, if
you study Statistics, you will also be able to do that. So far, the job
market is still good and I think it can be good for a while.

fyi, acturial jobs' starting salary is about 50-60k, and mba-level average salary (if you have years of meaningful w/e) is about 70-85k for non-top15 programs (of course, it really depends on each individual's own ability). If you are just out of college, acturial jobs may be more suitable.

Question No.1: what is your passion?

The easiest answer to that question is Money. Because you are just like any people who fall into the normal distribution.

If you do love something else, I would suggest at least try to get into that field first when you are young. Otherwise, you could lost an golden opportunity forever.

My suggestion - if you are not that ambitious, 精算师 maybe a goog choice.There are two kind of career choice for everyone - generalist and specalist. MBA is for generalist, that means, this guy can do many thing but he/she might not have some "hard" skill. For specialist, basically you chose a speciality and be very very strong at it. "精算师", CFA, Law, PHD etc. The key is, make sure you know what you like to do, and don't regret after you get the certification and job. Salary wise all can be good and bad, but you are going to be very suffering if you chose something that you hate.
