Basically, a higher ranked school gives you better career opportunities, i.e. opens more doors for you. The breadth and quality of recruiters that go on campus at Michigan is different than those that go to Emory. For instance, the major MCs and IBs spend a ton of time on corporate presentations, networking/social events at Michigan and they interview a lot of people there. Not knowing enough about Emory but I bet you they probably don't have the same level of access. Now this is not to say you can never get into a McKinsey or Goldman from Emory but you will have to spend extra effort just to get over the first hurdle, i.e. get them to consider you for an interview. At the higher ranked schools, even if you don't get close-listed for interviews, you can always bid some points to get one.
My POV has always been that go the best school you can get into and don't worry about money. |
