Just came back from a MBA tour. At GSB's desk, they showed two new special brochure, one is 'Why women apply GSB', the other is 'Marketing program in GSB'. I've long been hearing that GSB is trying to improve areas other than finance, in order to improve its overall image.

So, girl with marketing background and career goal will definitely have some edge this year.

doublejade, Do you know how many students are with engineering background in GSB? Specifically IT background?

Since GSB focuses on finance, how do the adcom think of engineers? In your mind, what would be a reasonable career plan? How about setting up one's own company?

A lot. Especially students ORIGINALLY from India and China. Most of them worked in IT or engineering in States for several years after received master or Ph.D degrees from  US universities.

Chicago likes students from enginerring or IT background. But the  strange part is that almost no student directly from foreign countries comes from these areas. Career plan? That depends on individual interest. But it's reasonbel  if you opt to change to management after several year's engineer experience.

could you provide some information about entrepreneurship about GSB, I don't know how to answer them if they ask me why apply for GSB.
I also want to know their altitude to the applicant who want to atudy entrepreneurship, Do they normally accept people who want to study that, very few?

At GSB, most MBAs can choose two or three concentrations. And most will choose Finance combined with Entrepreneurship, Strategy or Marketing. Chicago is also good at Entrepreneurship especially in New Venture Development. We have a selective named Private Equity/ Venture Capital Lab, which is almost the most selective and popular course at GSB. Students need to apply and qualifiers will do an intern in a VC company. So, don't worry about that. In fact, almost every business school welcome students with entrepreneurship because they are future CEOs and might bring a huge donation as alumni.

Sure. Basically, the brochure just list couple of GSB big name alumni in the marketing area, including James L. Kilts, CEO of Gillette and a bunch of other senior executives. Two faculty names also were mentioned: Pradeep K. Chintagunta and Ann L. Mcgill. I think you can find most of its information at gsb.uchicago.edu/kilts, their kilts center for marketing.

I scheduled an interview using the online booking system, then got a confirmation two days later last week. I didn't send a thank-you letter to the confirmer right after I got the confirmation email because I didn't realize I needed to do that. No need to send thank-you letter to her just for confirmation. It really doesn't matter at the end of the day.
