如果该句中的protecting改为protect是不是A就正确了？

根据句意可知,一定要是absorbing和 后面的protecting平行，作为结果状语修饰前面的主句。欢迎指正。

I think "-ing"s, absorbing and pretecting was clearly describing about "buffer"

This is exactly what buffer means.

我也是有这个疑问,动词现在分词到底是修饰的哪个,是前面的"Army Corp of engineer" 还是"breakwater as a buffer,absorbing....", 要是修饰后面的,那又是"breakwater"还是"buffer"呢?

也有同感，句尾-ing不是有两个作用1、与句子谓语同时发生2、伴随结果。
为什么这句的句尾-ing是就进修饰，不过的确是逻辑上说的通，但是“buffer”or“breakwater”逻辑上都讲得通，搞不清修饰哪一个，还有其他例子，句尾—ing就进修吗？
