叽里咕噜

我觉得这里的分词结构用在句尾，是表示伴随结果，其原因就是前面的内容，没有逻辑主语。

parallel那句话是定语从句，parallel是动词做谓语，取第四个意思.

前置是为了让后面的that指代breakwater更清晰，因为breakwater of rocks的核心是breakwater,也就是核心词的问题。

再次整理og，查阅了字典，牛津第六版，1380页，的确有propose doing的用法。

does "so that" can be used in this way?

absorbing  , protecting 被 that would rise six feet above the waterline and act as a buffer  分开, 其实是修饰 breakwater...
 

句了主干是,   Engineers proposed building a breakwater of rocks (that...), obsorbing the energy of crashing waves and protecting the beaches.
